"Hey, Abby," Connor started one evening, "You know with the whole wedding thing?"
"And there's traditions and stuff," she nodded, "Surrounding best men and chief bridesmaid," Abby nodded again and smirked, "And you had already thought of that when you made Jess your Chief Bridesmaid, hadn't ya?" Once more she nodded, "I'll just-" she kissed him, Connor Temple, her fiance, future husband.
The moment Abby had asked Jess to be her Chief Bridesmaid, she had pulled out her finger and started to help planning the entire event. Abby wasn't the weddingy type and Connor, bless his heart, didn't have any ideas where to start.
They chose the colour scheme and venues (after Jess had shortlisted a few on Abby's general spec) and pretty much left the rest of the planning to Jess. She's taken Abby dress shopping with Emily (who had a much more traditional view on the whole ideal and had managed to convince Abby that she looked perfect in the Grecian dress that she wanted but worried far too much about). Then she bundled the boys along to the suit shop and talked Connor out of talking himself out of a tophat and tails. It had nothing to do with then having Becker in a tophat and tails at all.
When the big day arrived Jess made sure that the whole thing was going to go down without a hitch, apart from Abby and Connor that was.
She appeared in the church to confirm Abby's arrival, nodding down to Connor, he smiled brightly, his deep purple cravat matching with the colour of Jess' knee length dress. It had been puffed out with endless layers of tulle. She caught Becker's eye as she turned to accompany Abby, Jack and Emily into the church. He quirked his brow in approval and she smiled. Tophat and tails had definitely been a good choice.
It had all been a bit of a dream-filled day. Even Abby had managed to keep a dry eye as she said her vows. Emily offered Jess a tissue and she expertly wiped away her welled up tear without smudging her make up.
The reception was to be held at the adjoining manor house to the church. Georgian era and simply massive. The estate was at such a magnificent scale even Jess had trouble comprehending it all.
The newly weds shared their first dance on the open courtyard, joking swaying and dipping each other, neither with any formal dancing training and that's exactly how they wanted it.
A few dances in and Jess retired to her seat, she was sitting next to Jack on the top table, Becker on the opposite end of it next to Connor's parents.
"I hear it's tradition at weddings for the best man to dance with the maid of honour," a all too familiar voice said in her ear. She looked up at him and smiled, "If you'd care for a dance, Miss Parker."
"Of course, Captain Becker," she accepted his hand and followed him to the dance floor. Keeping her hand in his he rested his other hand on her silk covered hip.
"You did a wonderful job, with all this," he complimented, gently swaying with her to the ballad that was playing, "It couldn't be better."
"Though there is one thing missing."
Her brow crinkled. He led her away from the dance floor, into the landscape gardens towards the lit fountain. "Becker?"
Just thought we could do with some privacy." He gently tucked a loose curl behind her ear, "I know it's a cliche, but that dress is making it incredibly difficult to resist," he leant and kissed her on the lips. She immediately reciprocated.
"The Best Man and the Maid of Honour," Connor said quietly into his new wife's ear as she leant back into his chest with his arms tightly around her waist.
